FAQ’s

What can I do to help my dog get used to the grooming process?

We suggest that owners get their dogs used to being handled, touched around the face, feet and tail area. Gently touching your puppies feet can help when it comes to nail clipping. I send a specialised desensitisation program to every puppy or dog that finds the grooming process difficult.

How often should my dog come for a groom?

It depends on the breed, length of coat and how often they are brushed at home. Any breed that required styling would be every 2 - 6 weeks. Short clips with minimal style 6 - 8 weekly. and maintenance grooms for double coated breeds from 4 - 12 weekly.

What do I need to bring to my appointment ?

Your pet’s favourite treats!

When should my puppy be groomed ?

It is important to get puppies used to the grooming process, smells and sounds as soon as possible once they’ve had their second vaccination. We suggest to new owners to bring them in for a cuddle, treat and play session so they can meet us 7 days after their second vaccinations. At around 3 months old, we advise booking your puppy in for a gentle bath and blow dry, and work up to a full groom around 4-5 months old. We will offer you some tips on brushing to ensure their coat stays matt free alongside a personalised desensitisation plan to help get them more comfortable with the grooming process.

How long will my dog be with you ?

The first appointment may take up to 3 hours to allow for additional time to settle your dog and acclimatise them to the grooming process. Subsequent appointments will normally take around 2 hours depending on the condition of the coat, size and temperament of the dog.

Can you just clip my pets nails ?

Yes, this service can be provided for £15 for dogs, £12 for cats and £10 for rabbits or guinea pigs.

Do you empty Anal Glands ?

We check anal glands during every groom and health check. If they require expressing we will use the external method. If they look infected, sore or require internal expression, we will advise you visit your vets. Expressing anal glands is offered as a separate service for £15 or £5 if combined with a groom.

My dog has a tick, can you remove it ?

We are very happy to remove any tick they may have for £15 as a separate service, or £5 if they’re found during a groom. While every care is taken to remove a tick, sometimes a tick head is buried deep and may require a visit to the vet to avoid infection. The tick season is around April to July but can be around all year due to the mild seasons. I can advise on preventative treatments but the products would need to be obtained from your vets.

Can I stay with my dog whilst they’re being groomed ?

We are very happy if you want to stay as we know it can be hard for owners to leave their dog with a stranger. However, the owner’s presence can make your dog more stressed. In this circumstance, we would recommend that you wait in your car or come back when the groom is complete.

Do you use drying cabinets or holding cages ?

We only groom with kindness and care. We do not use cages or cabinets. We have four types of drying options; towels, a human hair dryer, fluff/low velocity or high velocity dryers. The drying method depends on what your dog is comfortable with.

My dog has a medical condition, can they still be groomed ?

Generally yes, but it may be at the discretion of your vet. If they feel your animal is well enough and non-infectious then we can certainly groom them. I have tables that go all the way to the floor so no dogs will need to jump. The hydrobath gives a soothing massage for any old, aching muscles.

Do you groom cats and rabbits ?

Yes, very happy to groom cats and rabbits. Cats will require as assessment before booking in for a groom. Some cats require the salon to be dog free or two people available.

My dog has fleas, can you help ?

You would need to obtain a product such as; Nexgard, Advocate, Advantix, Bravecto, Stronghold or Advantage from your vets. Your dog would need to be regularly covered prior to coming for a groom. If on the day they are found to have fleas the groom will not be carried out, and you will be charged the full price. Fleas are very contagious and require treatment of the animal, treatment of the environment, fumigation and the cancellation of all other appointments that day.

My bitch is in season, can she be groomed ?

Keeping your bitch clean around the vulva area during her season is paramount to avoid any nasty bacteria and unwanted mats forming. More time may be required as they can become more stressed and sensitive during this time. We will book you in on any day but they will be the last appointment of the day to not upset any other dogs.

My dog is elderly, deaf, blind and or epileptic. Should I still have them groomed ?

I would double check with your vet but if the epilepsy is under control it should be okay to still get them groomed. As a qualified veterinary nurse I can assess the situation and would stop the grooming process if I was at all concerned. They all just need more time and reassurance.

My dog is aggressive and or nervous about being groomed, can you help ?

We will take extra time to groom your beloved pooch and work on building up their confidence. If they’re so nervous and we are unable to get a muzzle on, I would advise visiting the vets as we don’t want to make a bad situation worse for them.

Do you offer hand stripping ?

My lovely employee Ellie offers handstripping. We can arrange for a meet and greet before your appointment to assess the coat condition and length of time required.

Where can I park ?

The studio is on private property so we kindly ask clients to park in the designated parking bay directly in front of the studio. The gates will open away from you automatically (if you pull up close enough). Please turn left at the roundabout at the top of the drive.

How can I pay ?

We accept cash, bank transfers and card payments. Many clients pay by a monthly standing order so help spread the grooming cost over the year.
